Gravitating around the world of mixed martial arts, there is a type of person that I see a lot of. Wannabees. People that want the status without putting in the effort. It's something very frustrating when somebody pays his dues just to get the attention snatched away from him by some thick headed thrill seeker. Wannabees are everywhere though. As long as there is glamour somewhere, people will want a piece of the action witout paying the price.
As I am working the craft of writing fiction, I am scared of getting scratched by wannabees on my journey. Even worse, to be one of them. There is not much differenciating me from the except for the effort I put in. The other day I was pointed at for using writing manuals to perfect myself. That person called me out and said that writing is based on "astute observation of reality". I think that person doesn't know what she's talking about. Most readers think it's the same thing to write, but I'm discovering a whole new world. It's like non-spontaneous acting more than just telling.
Storytelling is about the STORY, it will make or break your efforts. It needs to be strong and smart. Few people pulled a great novel without a rock solid movie. None of us are James Joyce or William Faulkner. Writing is work, it doesn't flow for anyone. This is a huge myth. There is nothing wrong about rewriting, editing and studying.
