People close to me know this. I am obsessed with the idea of finding the true nature of manhood. I know, I know, this is something odd to have any interest in. I'm aware of that. It's just that I find that it's a notion that's going down the crapper these days. Nothing is made for men anymore and most important, nothing is made for the boys to understand how to become men.
It's all boiling down to questions of tradition and education. Tradition is a word that has been ostracized by contemporary society. It's bad to hold on to the past rather than to move forward. But what's forward here for our young boys? A lot of things best suited for girls. In school, they have to be calm, quiet and focused. Even more alarming, they are always given girls as examples. Now, I have nothing against women. They are fascinating creatures, but very different from us. Boys are rowdy, loud and confrontational.
These values aren't good anymore. It's being antagonistic now to be a man. But what is it exactly, manhood? The way I see it, there are many factors to it, but the first is to aim to be good, rather than to look good. Rather than to say you're good. Men realizes their potential through direct action and total dedication to their goal. What do we got instead of that today? Emo music, social media (*sigh* I know...), Dr. Phil, metrosexuality...
A good example of that, dancing. For a reason I can't explain myself, it has been tagged as the "politically correct" output for self-actualization. Don't yell, don't scream, don't wrestle, don't box, don't skateboard, don't even break dance in a park because the old people are scared. Try your luck at "So you think you can dance" instead. Your family will be passing flyers door-to-door and humiliate themselves for you. You know what makes you feel old? Realizing you're from a past generation... I'll be writing more on this soon.
