The Taoist Edge

You may or may not have noticed, but the blog is all white. Everything's fine, blogger's template engine hasn't crashed. This is not an basic emergency template or the safe mode. This is Dead End Follies' new look. Why, oh why, I hear you curse to heavens while beating your chest with the fury of the desperate. It's no secret I wanted to change my humble abode's decor for some time now, but both aesthetic and practical reasons motivated such a minimalist makeover.

I surveyed the land last month, about the possible improvement I could make to the site and the most consistent suggestion in the comment section and on social media was to get rid of the black background, who was an eyesore to most readers. It slightly pained me to get rid of branded looks, but here's how I approached the issue. You people come here for the content. You readers visit my place to read quality reviews and discuss like intelligent human beings. So I decided to get rid of whatever could get in the content's way. It is now the only sun of Dead End Follies, as it should be.

Also, some of you may have notices I weeded out the side bar. It bothered me a lot. I thought it looked messy, cluttered and unprofessional. So I trimmed the fat and kept only the essential. The point was both aesthetic and practical, because I'm trying to improve the blog's bounce rate. Last detail, it might have eluded most, but I augmented the font size, also. Readability is content's most trusted ally. I might incorporate a few improvements over the next weeks (like a logo, for for example), but this Taoist design is bound to stay.

Tell me, how do YOU like it?

  1. I actually didn't mind the black...but whatever works best for content. The white is very spacious, which I like.

  2. Love the new look, Ben! It's like a 180 degrees turn! Hope you'll salvage the original banner, maybe just revamp it to fit the new template. It'd be a nice note of continuity.

  3. Thanks Gig. I'm working on a new logo that will be inspired by the old one!
