I AM CURRENTLY CLOSED TO KINDLE REVIEWS. I HAVE WAY TOO MANY BOOKS TO READ RIGHT (OVER 30) NOW AND CAN'T OFFER REVIEW IN A DECENT TIME WINDOW. I WILL CHOMP DOWN THE TBR AND RE-OPEN IN APRIL. THIS IS TEMPORARY, THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.
B.
I review books and movies. I try to do it as seriously as I can, but please know that it's not a professional activity for me. I make zero dollars from reviewing anything and especially books. Therefore, most of the books I read are the books I want to read, no matter when they were published. If I feel like reviewing Don Quixote and tell you I didn't like it *, I'm going to do it and there's nothing you can do to stop me. Dead End Follies is a blog and therefore, I have no obligation to blog about anything, other than the guidelines I give myself.
But let's say you want me to review your book. No problem. There are a few thing you need to know before you contact me. Please, read this section carefully before submitting any material for a review
-I review fiction and cultural essays. that's it. I'm not reviewing cookbooks or writing advice.
-I don't do YA, Middle Grade or children books. I don't do romance, chick lit, fantasy and anything with ready-made monsters (vampires, zombies, werewolves, faeries, mages, etc.) It happened that I did some exception. In that case, I probably requested the book of the person who pitched it to me was really good. Anne R. Allen's THE GATSBY GAME is an example. It's a chick lit mystery, but it's smart and well written. If you feel like taking a risk, please go ahead but know you might hit the spam filter really fast. Nothing personal, I'm just not the go-to guy for this kind of material. In fact, the internet is filled with blogs abotu those genres. But if you feel confident enough...hey maybe I'll take a chance.
-I can read poetry, but I suck at reviewing it. It's an art I respect, but I don't understand very well.
-I review mostly literary fiction, contemporary, mysteries, crime, noir, horror, science-fiction and sometimes westerns. I like to think I'm a good audience for these genres.
-If you decide to send me your book for review, I do not owe you a good review. In fact, I don't owe you anything. I'm thankful for all the literature I get, but this is a hobby for me. If you want a quick or a release day review, it's your responsibility to send me your book ahead of time. It's a leap of faith you're doing, so please read other reviews in my database to make sure your genre suits me. Do your homework.
-I happen to own a Kindle, but I have a rather long reading queue on it. If you're looking to have your eBook reviewed fine, but you'll have to wait in line. I'm sorry, but everybody is treated the same. If you have a physical book out, I will try to make space for it in my TBR pile. I rather encourage an up and coming writer that just got a book deal, rather than read a classic. Truman Capote needs my review a lot less than you do. I don't do promises, but I try to be reasonable.
-If you have a movie out and want me to review it, I'll gladly go to a local screening and even pay for my ticket, to encourage you. I'm not going to travel though. You can also send me a download link via email. I know it's not a professional web site, but I'm not a dick either, so I'm not going to put this up for general use. I have done this before.
