The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright

It's hard to evaluate what THE OFFSPRING really are. Were they punk rockers at any point in their career? Are they loveable sellouts? (you know, unlike...hum...unloveable sellouts). I've never met somebody who begrudged them for commercial succes. Only people I've ever met crazy about them were kids who didn't know anything about their music before the monster hit ALL I WANT. So you know, it causes me no ethical issue to dig THE OFFSPRING. Especially that they're somewhat of a vintage commodity now. THE KIDS AREN'T ALRIGHT doesn't have the most original title, but it's one of the most cohesive (and punk) efforts in their later career). I kind of understand the lyrics better as an adult. Also, you voted for it on the Facebook page so here it is.

The Offspring - THE KIDS AREN'T ALRIGHT

When we were young the future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big in every beat

Now the neighborhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives

Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for
Used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives
shattered dreams

Jenny had a chance, well she really did
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home cause he's got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot

Jay committed suicide
Brandon OD'd and died
What the hell is going on?
The cruellest dream - reality

Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for
what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives
Shattered dreams
