What are you looking for, homie?

Stratovarius - Black Diamond

Whenver I think about groupie sex, I am remembered of that scene in Anthony Neil Smith's THE DRUMMER where Cal Christopher bangs a passed out Japanese chick before leaving the life as some sort of morbid goodbye. While this vision looks accurate to me, Timo Kotipelto, Stratovarius' frontman and co-author of BLACK DIAMOND begs to differ. That's what makes the song so fun. It's the nicest, most polite thing ever done for a groupie after the rock star had to bolt in the middle of the night. The lyrics are obviously about this. I'm also sure he ended up using BLACK DIAMOND as a template to excuse himself from town to town. What girl is going to be mad at a rock star who wrote a song for her? Right? RIGHT?

Stratovarius may have been undermined by strange conflicts (the keyboardist Jens Johansson has urinated on the lead guitarist LIVE, causing him to leave the band. Unfortunately the photo aren't on the internets anymore), but Kotipelto has remained the classy constant in this ever-shifting equation and that's why he's getting laid and writing songs about it. Good for him! Meanwhile he entertains us with his sexy, but ever-so-polite power metal songs.

Stratovarius - BLACK DIAMOND

Again I see you standing there watching me.
Your gaze, those eyes are tantalizing openly, inviting me to get close to you,
can't help myself.
There's fascination in the air.
I try to fight this strong sensation but there's no chance to escape
from this temptation.
Feels like I've known you before, repeating phrases,
but I yearn for something more.
I know I can't stay by your side forever,
but I know I won't forget your beauty,
my Black Diamond.
