As mentioned in my 2025 year-end editorial, I have now migrated my mailing list from Mailchimp to Substack. If you’re a subscriber, you already know. I’ve sent an extra piece already as I was testing the platform. Don’t worry, I won’t go crazy with it.
What does it mean for people who are already subscribed?
Nothing. You’ll get one exclusive piece every month plus a digest of my most popular post FOR FREE. It's basically just going to look slightly better.
What does it mean for people who aren't subscribed?
One of the reasons why I decided to make this move is to reach more people. Substack is already for voracious, dedicated readers and the platform has internal mechanics making you easier to find than almost anywhere else. So, I’m making this move for you, person who are not already subscribed.
As I said, there will be a free tier featuring one original piece a month like I used to do on Mailchimp, but there will also a 5$/month priced tier featuring a completely new experience. WHOO!
What will be in this 5$ tier?
Many original, shorter pieces about various obsessions of mine: bizarre demos and old recordings, retro gaming, strange books, various lists, I’ll also go over everything I consume that I don’t catalogue on Dead End Follies and that’s A LOT. I’ll start with one extra piece a week and gauge how the workload feel from there, so it’ll be basically a 33% add-on to the site. But Substack is so not just a blogging-and-newsletter type of deal.
There’s a live chat I’m going to feed on a daily basis with topics and questions, so that we get to know each other better. There is also a podcast tool I want to explore, but this is going to take more time. I’m planning to set up something nice with guests people know and care about. That might be available exclusively on Substack for a month and everywhere else after. Something like that.
Dead End Follies was built to bring readers to me, but in 2026 I’ll be dropping on you like an uninvited, but interesting cousin you used to see only twice a year.
